Grandma's Baked Beans Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 pound navy beans Salt and pepper Bacon 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons catsup 2 tablespoons baking molasses 1 dash dry mustard 1 tablespoon vinegar Water Use your favorite soaking method or rinse, pick over, and soak beans overnight. In morning, simmer one hour in soaking water. Drain beans and spoon into baking dish (or bean pot) by layers. Sprinkle salt and pepper and cut-up bacon on each layer. Mix together the brown sugar, catsup, molasses, mustard, and vinegar. Pour on top of the beans. Cover beans and bake in 300 degree oven for 6 hours. After 4 hours, check to see if beans are getting dry. If so, add more water. Uncover for last hour. Stir carefully with fork and serve.
